We all know the deadline for submitting and paying tax returns (self-assessments) is 31st January. But you don’t have to leave it until then to do it! You can do this any time after the 6th April following the financial year end. This means you can get it done now and then you will know how much money you owe HMRC (or they owe you!) and be prepared for the payment deadline. Just because you submit your return early does not mean you have to pay early, you still have until the 31st January to make your payment…….is that not better than nasty last minute shocks? Anyway if use a bookkeeper/accountant for your bookkeeping they will be really happy if you don’t leave it until January – just saying!
